New corporate location in Oberhausen: EQOS Energie strengthens its high-voltage business

14. January 2021

Continued growth course at EQOS Energie: By opening a new location in Oberhausen, the Energy Technology division will from now on cover high-voltage technology in the Rhine-Ruhr region. The comprehensive infrastructure portfolio creates new jobs and strengthens the region.

Internationally active and system-relevant critical infrastructure provider EQOS Energie is continuing its course of steady growth. On 1 January 2021, the company opened its new corporate location in Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The Oberhausen site is the 23rd in Germany. EQOS Energie specialises in the fields of energy, telecommunications and railway traffic and is active with almost 40 locations in five European countries. Based on the new Oberhausen subsidiary, the Energy Technology division – especially the High Voltage segment – will be further expanded in the Rhine-Ruhr region in order to better develop this region. On this occasion, EQOS Energie has already created about 20 new jobs in the High Voltage segment.

By opening the subsidiary, EQOS Energie continues its expansion course in the German market in its 101st year of doing business. This also meets the requirements of the energy market, because numerous networks and substations will have to be modernised in the next few years as part of the energy revolution in order to simply meet the nationwide climate objectives.

Eric Mendel, chairman of the board and CEO of EQOS Energie: “We are very happy about this strategically important step for EQOS Energie. Opening our site in Oberhausen is another milestone for our sustainable growth in the energy sector. In the past anniversary year alone, we opened seven new facilities in the German-speaking region, all of them in the areas of energy technology and overhead line construction. With our new location in the western part of Germany, we will establish regional proximity to our customers and we will now strengthen our exposed position there.” Previously, EQOS Energie only served the southern and eastern regions of Germany from its locations in Radebeul near Dresden and in Pfungstadt. The company focuses on offering high-quality services for the operators of transmission and distribution networks. With its new subsidiary in Oberhausen, EQOS Energie is now closing a previous geographic gap and entering the market in western Germany.

Network expansion as a backbone of the energy revolution

High-voltage technology in particular offers great market potential: Network expansion is considered the backbone of the energy revolution, since it is large lines that transport electricity from the place it was generated to the location where it is needed. Power distribution is performed via the substations in question and, from there, electricity is transformed to secondary network levels in order to distribute power to the end customers. Tenders in this area are usually for an expansion of the respective network stations and the required modernisation efforts.

Another new focus in automation

Apart from its business in high-voltage technology, the infrastructure service provider has been offering intelligent solutions for industrial customers, specifically automation including robotics, in the Energy Technology division since last year. This represents a new service focus for the company. In this respect, the new activities revolving around the planning and installation of solutions for hardware and switch cabinet construction, which include software as well as set-up and lifecycle support, all fit seamlessly into the energy technology portfolio of EQOS Energie and round out the industrial business.
